Les pièces qui ne sont pas plates créent des problèmes à chaque étape en aval : mauvais ajustement des soudures, pliage imprécis, défauts de revêtement et reprises coûteuses. Un niveleur à rouleaux de précision corrige ces problèmes en faisant passer le matériau à travers une série de rouleaux décalés qui appliquent une flexion contrôlée et répétée, de sorte que chaque pièce arrive prête à être exécutée dès la première opération.
